Thought for Today

In the first few verses of Psalm 40, we find someone who has been suffering, and yet has remained steadfast in his faith in God. When his suffering has been relieved by God, he sings God's praises. By remaining faithful, regardless of our circumstances, we have a "light at the end of the tunnel". God is always faithful to us. And while the answers to our prayers may not be what we would want or expect, it is always for our good.

  • Faith
    Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! John 8:24 unless you believe that I am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins.
    Hope
    Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Jeremiah 29: 11 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
    Love
    1 Corinthians 13:4-5: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13: 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us to remember to sing your praises, and always remain faithful to you as you are to us. Let our faithfulness shine like a light to others in their time of need, as well as reminding us of your unending love for all the earth. Let us not forget to praise you, whatever our circumstances, for you are always there to set our feet on solid ground. In Jesus' name, Amen.

General Conference News During the 10 days of General Conference, delegates:

• adopted regionalization legislation,

• approved legislation that will remove restrictive, prohibitive language from The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church,

• adopted legislation that will grant Deacons authority to preside at sacraments,

• approved legislation to reduce the number of active bishops in the United States,

• adopted a reduced budget for the 2025-2028 quadrennium,

• approved legislation to change the clergy retirement plan,

• adopted climate justice legislation,

• and much more.

United Women in Faith On February 6th, the ladies will resume meeting at the church at 7:00 p.m. Vivian Heid will provide refreshments, and Agnes Swigart will have the program. All women of the church and their guests are invited.

Seniors Lunches Due to the weather, our January lunch has been rescheduled for the 22nd at noon at Rosalie's in Strasburg for a time of fellowship and good food. In February, we will meet on the 12th at Buckeye JVS' Restaurant at noon. All people of the church and their guests are invited.

Church Service is held at 10:30am Sunday Mornings. All are Welcome!

Who we are:
Otterbein United Methodist Church is open to everyone. We worship at 10:30am Sunday mornings. Dress is casual. Our mission is to serve others. "I've never been to a more welcoming and caring church." The service is available to those attending church, sitting in the parking lot listening to their car radio on 88.1FM, or on Facebook or You Tube.
